Founder & Lab Director | Senior Lecturer, Wits Business School

Dr Farai Mlambo is the Founder and Director of the Stat AI Lab. He is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Business at Wits Business School and a Fellow at the Wits Machine Intelligence and Neural Discovery (MIND) Institute. Holding a PhD in Mathematical Statistics, Dr Mlambo is currently pursuing a second PhD in Probabilistic Machine Learning, with a research focus on entropy-based explainability and uncertainty quantification in deep learning. His scholarly interests span Bayesian deep learning, statistical learning theory, spatial analytics, and trustworthy AI systems, with cross-disciplinary applications in healthcare, finance, and climate resilience.

Over the past decade, Dr Mlambo has taught and supervised across multiple institutions, mentoring over 20 postgraduate students and contributing to curriculum development in data science, artificial intelligence, and statistics. He serves as Secretary General of the Zimbabwean Statistical Association (ZIMSA), co-chairs the Special Interest Group on Statistics Education for SASA, and is the Founder of both the Global Postdoctoral Research Network and the Global Interdisciplinary Research Network. Dr Mlambo is deeply committed to building research capacity across Africa and promoting inclusive, ethical AI innovation for sustainable development.
